THE SLEEP OUT
Folkestone

2024
On the 8th November 2024 Channel Rotary held their a second Sleep Out at Three Hills
Sports Centre in Folkestone. This was broadcast on social media and was a fun evening
with various activities.
The aim of the evening was to raise funds to support Folkestone's
homeless through a new initiative which will help them to rebuild their lives through mentors
in a permanent home. The funds raised on the evening also support Rotary’s work with
disadvantaged young people.
A small gathering of people from our District came together and braved the cold weather to raise money for this important work. The sleep-out raised about £8,000!

The Project
The Address Is...
Some people through a downward spiral of misfortune unavoidably become homeless. Compounding having to sleep rough is the fact that they have no address from which to communicate for job applications or support of any kind to rebuild their lives. So we have called the project “The Address Is”.

The eventual aim is to fund a home providing all the necessary help to house people while they work their way, supported by mentors back to normal living. This will be a year round replacement for The Winter Shelter which has been run by the churches in Folkestone for many years. A permanent base would provide continuity of the work which the winter shelter has provided for a limited period each year. While the building is readied, the Winter Shelter will continue to be funded as necessary. Hopefully this will be the first of many.
